Dry Day Plot

The setting of the film takes place in the fictional town of Jagodar, where alcohol is abundant and inexpensive. The local politician, Omveer Singh Dauji, has made alcohol so affordable that men eagerly queue outside liquor shops from the break of dawn. However, the women in the town have grown weary of their husbands’ excessive drinking and the financial strain it puts on their families. The story begins with Gannu Bhaiya, a member of the Prachand Bal Party (PBP), addressing a political rally. What sets this rally apart is that not only Gannu Bhaiya but also the attendees, hold liquor bottles in their hands.

After exploring the village throughout the day, Gannu is taken aback when his wife, Nirmala, discloses that she and his mother are both expecting. Nirmala insists that she will only proceed with the pregnancy if Dauji appoints Gannu as the corporator of Jagodhar district. As word spreads back home, the idea of Gannu becoming the next corporator gains significant momentum, prompting Nirmala to even name their unborn daughter ‘Chhoti Corporator’.

However, Dauji has no intention of appointing Gannu as the corporator for the next five years. In response, Gannu initiates campaigns and marches advocating for an alcohol ban, highlighting the escalating alcohol consumption. This deeply offends Dauji, leading him to disown Gannu. Meanwhile, a rival named Satoo exposes Dauji’s plan to appoint him as the corporator instead of Gannu. Faced with a threat from Nirmala to abort the baby if he doesn’t become a corporator, Gannu becomes determined to do whatever it takes to run for the position. He engages in religious rituals and seeks out the “right set of people” in his pursuit of becoming a corporator.
